NOTAP DG Calls for Strategic Approach to Industrial Development of Nigeria
The Director General of National Office for Technology Acquisition & Promotion (NOTAP) Engr. Umar Buba Bindir has called for a strategic approach to the industrial development of Nigeria.
Part of this approach according to him will involve a synergy of relevant institutions and organisations that are regulatory in function to work together as well as the inculcation of entrepreneurial education in our nation’s educational system.
The Director General was speaking while receiving a delegation from the Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME) led by the President, Alh. Ibrahim Garba Gusau who were on a courtesy visit to NOTAP.
Engr. Umar Bindir decried a situation whereby there is no clear strategy to industrialize our nation while nearly 100 percent of technology and raw materials being used by industry is imported. He explained that NOTAPs regulatory role has revealed the fact that there were no local content in industry because of the weakness in institutional frameworks for effective technology transfer in the country.
He described NASME as a strategic partner and called for closer ties with the Association to develop local technologies and break the trend of massive importation of foreign technology into Nigeria.
In his remark, the NASME President, Alh. Ibrahim Garba Gusau said the visit was carried out to express appreciation to NOTAP for the support being accorded NASME and to also seek further areas of collaboration to develop the SME sector.
He commended the DG for his brilliant paper presentation at the Association’s last summit and sought NOTAPs collaboration to organize a workshop to create awareness amongst SMEs in Nigeria on local technology development.
