Kano State Govt. to Build ICT Park in Kano

The northern Nigerian state of Kano is working towards breaking the digital divide and become the hub of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) activities in the west African Sub region with the establishment of new ICT park in the Centre of Commerce state.

The building of the proposed ICT Park which is expected to drive the development of Information and Communication Technology in the state is expected to take off soon, according to the state government.

The State Governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau who flagged-off a one-day workshop in preparation for the official commencement of the ICT Park, described ICT as "a major driving force for economic prosperity."

The State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Bashir Galadanci who convened the workshop says the ministry has already begun to create an enabling environment to attract ICT investors from all over the world to the Kano ICT Park.

His words: "These people here represent the best brains in the nation's Information and Communication Technology industry, and they have assembled for a workshop which is part of the final phase of preparation for the official commencement of the much awaited Kano ICT Park".

A highly enthusiastic Governor Ibrahim Shekarau who declared the workshop open, experts that his administration has identified ICT as a major building block for sustainable development, and is committed to deploring the sector to fast track the socio-economic development of the state.

Already, the Ministry has created sufficient enabling environment to attract world's leading ICT experts and firms to be part of the running of the Kano ICT Park.

Although the official opening of the Kano ICT Park is to be performed later in the year, however commendations have already begun to pour in for the Kano state government from local and foreign ICT experts and businessmen, who expressed optimism that the Kano ICT park would enable Kano State break the digital divide and become a hub of Information and Communication technology activities within the west African sub region.
